My name is Aseem Kishore and I work as a Systems Analyst in Dallas, TX. I graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, GA in 2002 with a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics.

I tried ryan vm to integrate Xp Home, SP2 and service packs but I keep getting the same error, folder is read only, source wasnt changed. As soon as I uncheck read only, it goes back to read only?

Bruce – tell me a little more about how you have things setup. If you look at your integrator.ini file, is the source set different than the destination?
If you look in the RyanVM\_Log History folder, what does the log file list as your source and destination paths? Mine looks like:
Source Drive = C:\XpSP2original
Destination Drive = C:\XPsp2Updated
I enjoy your blog very much, it actually inspired me to create my own. It seems like a good way to communicate with my fellow engineers at the company I work for, as well as to create searchable topics.

I am a network Admin for a circuit board mfg. I had dealt with netware 3.12, and 4.11 in prior postings. I am now managing 7 servers, four 6.5 servers, and 3 5.1 servers. I am learning everyday. The tips you said about embox, and the backup of edirectory is fantastic. I mean,you always get “just backup xyz” without show how. You actually show how. I will be bookmarking your site, and looking at it carefully. Thanks.

We’re using Novell SBS 6.5. I have an iPAQ 4700. I have been syncing using ActiveSync through Outlook 2000 to GW 6.5.
What product would you recommend for syncing between the GW and the iPAQ? I am particularly interested in the mail and the calendar.

Too bad you’re not on GW7, you could use the Outlook connector. Your best bet will be Groupwise PDA Connect or Intellisync Handheld edition.

Have you looked at Zenworks Configuration Manger?, Zenworks 10?
I have a server set up, and I am testing it now. Our goal is to move to MS-AD, but our help desk staff like the Zenworks capabilities and want to keep the functionality of Imaging, Inventory and what not.
I have a couple test stations and here’s how I have them configured. We have the novell client still installed as we still have the NW servers running. After we uninstall Zen 7 client and then install Zen 10 agent, we get dual logins. We get the novell tree login, then we get a login to the workstation, something like a profile login…weird.
Just wondering if you had see that yet.

Nice to read your stories about 802.1x. I’m currently working on an implemention on 802.1x in the following environment; Windows XP with latest Novell client (using Windows XP built-in supplicant), Cisco network equipment, freeRadius (SLES 10), Novell eDirectory (SLES 10). I have a great problem and really can´t find a solution, and I found you as the final way to get a little help. The problem I have is that the client first do its initial login as expected (takes about 3 sec), then some seconds pass and then it suddenly lost connection to the VLAN for about 12 sec before it re-initiate the connection and run as expected again. Should it be doing this extra login-logout?

My employer uses Novell groupwise for email access. When I load the website on my Mac it loads fine and functions normally for about 3 minutes. Then it locks up and will not allow me to do anything. If I close Safari and reload, same thing. I tried Firefox, same thing. Any ideas?

I have a Groupwise 7 setup on a Netware 6.5 server which is not configured for cluster. I have installed a Netware OES on another PC. Now I want to cluster them. They are on different trees. Dear Julie,
The Webaccess on GW 7 is not working properly. Several times I have to restart the server. It works for some time and then it gives the error 500 web page address. with a link to our external IP. On clicking the link it goes to the default page of Apache.
The server has a 1 GB Ram, I was suggested to upgrade the Ram. However earlier it used to work with this ram.
Do you have any idea on where the problem is. Have anybody suggested to increase the capacity of ram when this occurs.
Like how we recreate the folders in GWIA is there some way to recreate the folders in Webaccess too.

The easiest way to recreate the folders in to re-run the Webaccess installer. Make sure you backup the configuration files first.
If you are getting 500 errors, I would look in your Apache error logs at SYS\Apache2\logs to determine what the failure is – check the webaccess log files at SYS\Novell\WebAccess\logs as well.

I have a new problem but thats a little severe i guess. Netware 6.5 loads with a file NAWT.NLM status as unresolved. i am not able to access the server. the server boots fine only to show NAWT.NLm unresolved at logger screen. Cn you please help asap as I am worried.

nawt.nlm is likely related to Zenworks. Boot the server.exe with -na , then comment out the file that loads Zenworks. Restart the server as normal.

I hve installed a new server today. what i want to do with this is use this server as a backup for my current email server. the mails should be able to receive and sent with this new server as well. Also i need to backup the current email server so that users when they login to the new server should be able to see the mails as well. Do you know how to do it and what i should be doing. I haven’t installed groupwise yet, but i am wondering if i change the domain and post office name will it work as normal.

I’m working with a printer management application called GoPrint (hosted on Windows Server 2003 R2) that uses the HTML rendering engine (i.e, Internet Explorer) on each Windows client to popup messages related to printing. The first time I try to print, I login using the popup UI and everything is fine. On subsequent print commands (never having logged out), I get a dialog box titled “Windows Internet Explorer” with this text:
To display the webpage again, Internet Explorer needs to resend the information you’ve previously submitted.
If you were making a purchase, you should click Cancel to avoid a duplicate transaction.
Otherwise, click Retry to display the webpage again.
I want to suppress this message for the GoPrint application, but not for all Web sites visited from this Windows client. If I make an entry in the Windows client’s HOSTS file for this fully qualified server name, then this “resend” message never appears. But why? Did adding the entry to HOSTS effectively change its Internet zone (Restricted/Internet/Trusted/Local intranet)? (Adding this server to the Trusted or Local intranet zones made no difference.) How could the method of name resolution affect subsequent HTML traffic? Why (and how) is HTML communication to servers defined in HOSTS handled differently than servers resolved via DNS?
It happens that this particular Windows XP SP3 client is in the same subnet as the server (123.45.67.xxx). Will the workaround fail when the Windows client is not in the same subnet as the server? (No proxy is configured.)
I should mention that I’m not a network expert, but I’m an IT professional who is comfortable interpreting a packet trace when necessary. I don’t need a full technical explanation here if you can just direct me to a document that explains why this works.
BTW, adding this server to HOSTS also suppresses an IE dialog box complaining about the invalid certificate on this server. I don’t understand that either: certificate processing is bypassed or surpressed for servers in HOSTS?
And I don’t think this solution has anything to do with GoPrint itself, but GoPrint tech support has no idea what’s happening here on the client end.
An explanation, or a pointer to one, would be greatly appreciated. Sande
