Julie,
Great write-up. I’ve just been hitting the Novell Client issue with some of our education customers and was gathering this same info for them and for a blog post.

You have some great content here- good job!!

This resource is amazing. It really helped us here.
We have just begun messing with windows 7. So far the only thing I cannot get working is the 802.1x authentication. Any tips? It is quite different from XP.

Has this project been completed successfully? We are trying to do the same in our school district and have run into problems authenticating every time. It is very intermittent and therefore sometimes works and sometimes does not work. We have not deployed the wireless yet and any information is greatly appreciated.

I have my freeRadius authenticating against LDAP and a switch port on a cisco 2950 configured for port-based authentication, but I haven't been able to get the port to work. Anybody know some documented instructions to do this with a cisco switch, Novell Client 4.91 SP5 and freeRadius?

I've routinely discouraged customers to employ Cisco Secure ACS, due to the layer this component adds and the management complexity of the solution. I'm a strong believer that either Microsoft's IAS or FreeRadius can provide all that is needed to support wireless users, seeing as I've deployed numerous wireless networks without ever resorting to ACS.

Good luck!

I finally tracked down my problem to a LDAP attribute mapping issue. The Cisco device was not recognizing the attribute as the cisco-avpair. Now I can control access to my cisco devices based on user or groups attributes

Our installation is a FreeRadius 2.0.4 on OES2 with LDAP access to eDir. I agree the newer versions are eaiser to install than the 1.x versions of FR. The only issues I'm having are on the Cisco side. Their standard answer is "get ACS".
