I was trying to use Microsoft’s SyncToy utility to backup some of my data on my Windows Vista 64-bit pc, but the program kept crashing with the following error:

I knew I was running a Windows Vista compatible version of SyncToy, so I figured it must be a Windows Vista compatibility issue. I found Josh’s post which describes his solution for the problem – installing Microsoft Network Monitor 3.0.
Josh resolved this error by copying custsat.dll, which is installed by Network Monitor, into the SyncToy installation directory (C:\Users\YourLoginName\AppData\Local\SyncToy). Once I replaced the existing custsat.dll with the version installed with Network Monitor 3.1, SyncToy started right up without a problem.
