Bypassing corporate/educational content filters

Digital Inspiration has a detailed post describing how maneuver around content filters by using calc.exe to change the url into an IP address, then into a decimal number.  I’m happy to report that both our Websense and Sonicwall content filters blocked this attempt.

Unfortunately, they did not pass the Mowser test, which uses the free service that converts web pages into mobile browser friendly sites via Google.

With another school year just around the corner, we’ll need to combat all the new tricks the students have found to circumvent the local content filters.
